You did your base beautifully at 7am. By 11 it has quietly relocated. Here's how to make it stay put.
Makeup tutorials are mostly filmed in air conditioning. Ours isn't that life. Between the humidity, the drive with the windows down and the walk from the car park, a base that was flawless at breakfast can be patchy by mid-morning — and no amount of powder on top fixes a base that was never built to grip.
The good news: longevity is a method, not an expensive product. Five steps, in this order.
1. Grip before you cover
A grip primer gives foundation something to hold onto instead of sitting on skin oils. On a hot day this is the single step that decides whether your base lasts four hours or ten. If your skin runs dry, hydrate first and let it settle — grip primer over flaky skin grips the flakes.
2. Foundation: less, better placed
One thin layer where you need it, blended outward — not a full mask. Heavy coverage doesn't last longer, it just has further to fall.
3. Conceal after, not before
Concealer goes on top of foundation, only where you actually want it — under the eyes, around the nose, over marks. Doing it in this order means you use a third as much and it moves a lot less.

4. Bake the areas that move
Loose powder, pressed (not swept) into the under-eyes, sides of the nose and anywhere you crease. Leave it a few minutes while you do your eyes, then dust off the excess. That short wait is the whole trick — it lets your own warmth set everything underneath.
One thing nobody warns you about: if you're medium to deep, a white powder left sitting on the skin is what causes that grey, ashy cast — and in photos with flash it can show up as a pale patch across the face even when the mirror looked fine. Two fixes: dust off properly rather than leaving a layer, and use a warm-toned powder instead of a stark white one. A banana powder does that job for warm and medium tones — the yellow undertone disappears into the skin instead of sitting on top of it.
5. Lock it in
Finish with an oil-control setting spray, held an arm's length away, in an X and then a T across the face. It fuses the layers together so powder doesn't sit like a separate coat on top. Then — and this is the hard part — stop touching your face.
