Tranexamic acid is one of the better-evidenced ingredients for pigmentation and post-acne marks. It works gradually rather than overnight.

I have melanin-rich skin — how should I use this?

Go slower rather than stronger. Irritation is what triggers dark marks on melanin-rich skin, so a product bought to fade them can create them if it is pushed too hard. Start a couple of times a week, build up only once your skin stays comfortable, and wear sunscreen the next morning. A higher percentage is not an upgrade.
